This is an alphabetical list of the major online legal resources available via the Zief Law Library. This list excludes most newsletters, which are listed in the Resources by Topic section of this guide. Information on who may use these resources is available in this guide's Overview.

    "A comprehensive, searchable source of information on California ballot propositions from 1911 to 2006.   • Canada Supreme Court Reports - HeinOnline
    Official full text of judgments of Canada's high court, from volume 1 (1876) to the present. (Title varies: volumes 1-64 (1876-1923) are Reports of the Supreme Court of Canada and volumes for 1923-1969 are Canada Law Reports.)
  • Casemaker X for Law Schools
    Full-text U.S. state and federal cases, statutes, and regulations, and federal court rules. For some states the following may also be available: links to court forms, jury instructions, "unreported" opinions, ethics opinions, worker's compensation opinions, environmental decisions, Attorney General Opinions, and court rules.     The official daily publication for rules, proposed rules, and notices of Federal agencies and organizations, as well as executive orders and other presidential documents. HeinOnline adds the U.S. Gov’t Manual and the Daily and Weekly Compilations of Presidental Documents. [A free Federal Register is available from FDsys.gov.]
  • Foreign & International Law Resources - HeinOnline
    Yearbooks of international law, digests of United States practice in international law, decisions of international tribunals.
  • Foreign Law Guide
    Covers over 170 countries/jurisdictions. Cites to laws in the original language (and, where possible, in English) in official or other authoritative sources. Also includes brief overviews of each country's legal system.
  • Foreign Relations of the United States (FRUS) - HeinOnline
    "The official documentary historical record of major U.S. foreign policy decisions and significant diplomatic activity. It is comprised of more than 500 books beginning with Abraham Lincoln's administration in 1861 and continuing to the administration of Richard Nixon in 1975."
  • Fusion - find articles, books, and more at USF
    Fusion searches all the materials in USF's library catalog, Ignacio, as well as the content of the majority of USF's many journal article databases. Gleeson library has this overview of Fusion.
  • Fastcase
    Coverage: U.S. Supreme Court opinions; federal courts of appeal and district court opinions; state supreme and appellate court opinions; statutes/codes; administrative regulations; court rules; state attorney general opinions. [On-campus access only—for now. Access for USF students, faculty, staff, and authorized library users. Non-USF, non-campus users may subscribe to Fastcase at a rate of $65 to $ 95 per month ($695 or $995 per year), depending on content selected.]

  • Oxford Bibliographies Online — "Authoritative Research Guides"
    In separate topical "modules," leading scholars recommend the most important and useful sources (books and other materials) in their areas of expertise. Commentary explains the significance of each source and links allow you to find the sources at the USF libraries or elsewhere. USF subscribes to 9 topical modules: Communication; Criminology; Education; International Law; International Law; International Relations; Philosophy; Political Science; Public Health.
  • Oxford Reports on International Law (ORIL)
    Five "modules" — International Courts of General Jurisdiction; International Human Rights Law; International Criminal Law; International Law in Domestic Courts; and International Investment Claims.
  • Oxford Scholarly Authorities on International Law (OSAIL)
    Leading book on international law published by Oxford University Press. Offers full-text searching, and browsing by author, title, subject, and cases⁄instruments cited. OSAIL currently includes over 50 books; more will be added periodically. At USF, OSAIL is integrated with the Oxford Public International Law platform.
  • Oxford Constitutions of the World
    "Fully-translated English-language versions of all the world's constitutions (both national and sub-national), accompanied by individual jurisdictional commentaries, and supplementary materials, including foundation documents, historical versions of constitutions, and amendment Acts/Laws."

  • PACER - Federal Court Records & Documents
    PACER offers access to relatively recent federal district and appellate court documents. The search interface can be cumbersome and it is very helpful to know which court the case was in, and the case's docket/filing number.
    Contact any of the Zief Law Library's reference librarians for the library's PACER password and a brief PACER orientation.
  • Parker School of Foreign and Comparative Law Publications - HeinOnline
    Includes "more than 50 publications from the prestigious Parker School of Foreign & Comparative Law at Columbia Law School, such as: Charles Szladits, A Bibliography on Foreign and Comparative Law and E. Allan Farnsworth, An Introduction to the Legal System of the United States." Publication dates range from the early 1950s to the mid 1990s.

  • ProQuest Legislative Insight
    Compiled legislative histories for enacted laws, including (as searchable PDFs): the Public Law text; all versions of enacted & related bills; Congressional Record excerpts; and committee hearings; reports; and documents.     The Serial Set, a sub-part of ProQuest Congressional, contains "reports and documents either produced or ordered by Congress, as well as presidential communications and treaty materials. Of particular importance to those who study law, the Serial Set contains Congressional legislative reports that provide unrivaled insight into the legislative intent of laws...." Also included are Senate Executive Documents from 1817-1978.
